Why Unskilled Manpower Is Important
Unskilled manpower refers to a segment of the workforce associated with a limited skill set or minimal economic value for performed work. Unskilled labour is characterized by lower educational attainment and typically results in minimum wages. Unskilled manpower is required for specific work that needs no specific education level or specialized skills.
Unskilled labour forms a significant part of the global labour market. Repetitive tasks or jibs that can be learnt in less than 30 days fall into the unskilled labour category. These jobs are very low paying and require no educational background. Unskilled labour can be used to identify the type of work as well as the employee completing it. This lack of skills prevents them from participating in anything by the most basic job roles.
The federal agency estimates that the unskilled manpower will account for the maximum increase in jobs by 2024. Although, unskilled manpower is initially beneficial for a business as it saves a lot of time and money, hiring unskilled labour has its own imitations.
Training costs
Using unskilled manpower for the completion of a task needs to be specific and not skill-oriented. Even if the workers are hired for basic work, they might require training due to various reasons from the overall efficiency of the group, to specific requirements of the job. They can be trusted only with traditional tools, and can not utilize the efficiency of power tools.
Lower productivity
Unskilled labours are unaware of ways to work efficiently, and often requires thorough supervision. Due to their low payment and the nature of their work, they can be unmotivated to complete the job productively, or before time.
Safety hazards
Workers who are not skilled in operating machinery can pose threat to equipment maintenance and any misuse can result in safety issues and even catastrophes. Accidents caused by an unskilled workforce can result in legal claims or penalties from health and safety regulators too.
